This position primarily involves kitchen shifts, with one shift a week working in the store as a receiver. The kitchen portion of the job will include cooking large batches of food, maintaining food safety standards, costing and creating recipes, washing dishes, and placing orders among other tasks. The store receiving position assists in receiving deliveries as well as maintaining the organization, rotation and stocking of products.
Some experience with ordering and managing finances/budgets is a plus. This position is a minimum of 24 hours weekly, and will be scheduled 3-5 days per week depending on worker preference and organizational needs. Availability on Saturdays is required.
ACG is a collectively managed organization. This means that the workers run every aspect of the business–no boss necessary! In addition to providing excellent customer service, you’ll be expected to learn the ins-and-outs of a democratic workplace and help operate the store. Cashiering, stocking, answering customer questions, cleaning…you’ll do it all!
Our mission is to serve as a community resource and gathering place while providing fresh, high quality, affordable food to our North and Northeast Portland communities. We emphasize products from local, organic, and socially responsible sources, and work to build connections between our customers and their farmers.
If you don’t know much about coops or collective management, we’ll teach you! Prior experience isn’t as important as an interest in having a voice in the business and enthusiasm for taking on tasks and roles that a typical grocery store wouldn’t ask of you.
